THE FIRST THIRTY ESSAY CONTESTS: CCA

-- WIN ...................... -

STEP 1:  ARE YOU ELIGIBLE TO SUBMIT AN ESSAY?  The First Thirty Essay Contest - Thunder Bay 2007 is open to any student in good standing in Ms. W's class at CCA

STEP 2:  WRITE YOUR ESSAY. Your essay needs to be  under 300 words.  You may have a parent or teacher brainstorm with you about your essay, but the essay must be written in its entirety by you the student.  Here's the question:

The First Thirty by Jillip Naysinthe Paxson is based on the first thirty years of Greg Forbes Siegman's life and the first thirty lessons learned from his setbacks and successes along the way.  Choose one of the thirty lessons and explain - specifically - how this lesson applies most to what you have dealt with - or are dealing with - or think you will be dealing with in your own life...and how the lesson (and the part of The First Thirty that inspired the lesson) can help you moving forward. BE SPECIFIC.

NOTE: No purchase necessary.   You can read the book in class if copies are available and/or may be able to get one with parent permission at the local college bookstore, and/or borrow one from the local public library. They are also available by having a parent click on SHOPPING CART on this website.  Note: If you are a teacher and would like to order copies for your students (or if you are in business and you or your company are interested in ordering copies of the book to donate for local students in your community, just email Books@IdeaListEnterprises.com

STEP 3:  SUBMIT YOUR ESSAY BY E-MAIL   Your essay must be sent by e-mail to Contests@TheFirstThirty.com  It must be submitted directly from your personal e-mail account -- or the email account of one of your parents or guardians or teachers.  If you submit it from one of a parent or guardian's email account, be sure to note that at the beginning of your email (i.e.  "I personally wrote this essay entry.  It is being sent to you through the email account of my mother/father/uteacher/uncle,etc.).  It costs nothing to submit an essay. Make sure to spell-check it and proofread it.  And remember to follow the following instructions:

(a) No attachments.  Insert the essay into the actual email itself. JUST COPY AND PASTE IT INTO THE ACTUAL EMAIL ITSELF. DON'T WORRY IF THAT MESSES UP THE FORMATTING A LITTLE. ATTACHMENTS CANNOT BE OPENED.

(b) The subject heading of your email must be THE FIRST THIRTY -  CCA 2007 - AND THEN YOUR FIRST INITIAL AND LAST NAME and  GRADE (so, for example:  The First Thirty - CCA 2007- J. Smith-- 7th grade)

(c) At the beginning of the email, be sure to include your full name, your birthdate, note the name of the school you attend, where it is located (city, state) and your contact email address & phone (make sure you type these correctly or we won't be able to reach you if you win!).

(d) Then,  assuming you are under 18, type the following statement: "My (parent/guardian), (their name), has read this essay and has given me permission to submit it. "

The deadline is  5:00 PM EAST COAST TIME,  SEPTEMBER 23, 2007. After you submit the essay, you'll receive a confirmation e-mail. If you don't receive the confirmation e-mail within 2 days, it is your responsibility to re-submit the essay to ensure it is received.   Each student may only submit one essay (if you don't receive the confirmation email and you re-submit the essay to be safe, that still counts as just one essay).

STEP 4:  JUDGING PROCESS: A special panel of judges will review all eligible essays and select the winners.  The judges are an anonymous group of adults and students.   Nobody working at your school or for the sponsors is a judge.  Greg is not a judge. If, for any reason, you learn of the identity of a judge, you may not contact them about this contest for any reason or you will be disqualified.  The chosen winners will be notified by email and instructed to submit the necessary forms (When a student is selected, they will be presented with a Standard Waiver Form that must be filled out with a parent/guardian and faxed in to the number provided in the form before their selection is 'official'. At the time they are selected as the chosen winner and provided the forms, they have 10 business days to respond with the necessary paperwork completed and returned.  If they fail to respond or fail to provide the proper , completed paperwork, a replacement winner will be selected by the judges.)

STEP 5: THE PRIZES:   One winning student will receive: (A) Their essay featured on TheFirstThirty.com for at least thirty days (with just the student's first name - not last name) (B)
