LOUISIANA:   At the age of 19, Greg moved to Louisiana to attend college.  It was his first time ever setting foot in the Deep South, and he came to enjoy it a great deal. During his time there, he became very active in the local community - volunteering at local schools, joining a fraternity, getting elected to student government, establishing a mentoring program for local middle school kids, and eventually, being appointed by the Dean to the position of Chairman of Community Service.   Later, after establishing his nonprofit organization (The 11-10-02 Foundation), Greg raised the funds to create several grants for local schools which he named after three professors in Louisiana who had impacted his life (as well as a fourth grant he named after the Dean).     The 11-10-02 Foundation has also funded a number of grants to benefit students and programs and schools in Louisiana. He has taken part in an extensive number of interviews promoting the school and/or the state.   For his book, The First Thirty, he chose "Louisiana" to be the name of the school the main character attends - in an effort to further promote the state. Following the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina, he wrote several guest columns for papers like the Chicago Sun-Times urging about the decency and kindness he experienced in Louisiana.  In the weeks that followed, Greg launched ProjectThankYou.com - a program which gives people the chance to make a small but meaningful difference for First Responders in the Gulf Coast -- by, simply enough, emailing in a thank you note.
